Montgomery County, GA, Newspaper Clippings - Thursday, Feb. 12, 1903. A pleasant invocation and surprise cut in two the exercises during the organization of the Epworth League at the Methodist church in our town on Sunday evening last. While the pastor was getting things in shape, interested friends began to make signs of distress and confusion at the front door and the preacher was called out and urged to perform the marriage ceremony for a young couple who had driven up in a buggy from the country. Brother Wright was not in as much of a hurry as the young folks seeking marital ties and after some persuasion the groom left the mule and buggy and led the blushing bride down the aisle to the alter where the solemn service of making Miss Ethel Bridges the wife of John W. Evans was soon performed. Without a single note from the organ, and under the gaze of the surprised congregation, the couple sought again the mule transport, and were soon lost behind Montgomery's rolling hills. Whence they came and whither they went no one seemed to know; but we venture to remark that it's nobody's business so long as they are happy.
